A Boeing KB-50J refuels an North American FJ-4B Fury. Note that the Fury is from VMA-214, the famed Black Sheep Squadron led by Maj. Pappy Boyington in WWII. The engines on the B-50 were nuts: 28 cylinders, 4,362.5 cu in of displacement, 4,300 hp. It was the largest radial engine ever built in the US, and they made almost 19,000 of them. The KB-50 in the photo also sports a couple of early turbojets to help keep ahead of the fighters.

Good morning.  Not looking forward to the day but at least it’s Friday.

I’m still sick as hell. As long as I don’t start speaking Chinese, I should be okay. That said, there is a suspected case of the Wuhan virus at Texas A&M. That’s a little bit closer to home.

The amount of engineering that went into enhancing piston engines in WWII is always mind blowing to me.

B-36 had six of those engines for a total of 336 sparkplugs. They carried them to the flight line in 5-gallon buckets, I once read.

What? You won't be listening intently to the impeachment trial in the Senate?

I’ve never thought about it but the amount of spark plugs consumed in WWII must have been immense. All the tanks, jeeps, airplane engines.......

Oh god - my wife had that on for a bit last night, I’d rather pour bleach in my eyes and poke my eardrums with a sharp stick than watch that again.

Thanks. I felt like I had been run over by a truck this morning. Feeling a bit better now. It helps to just lie around and do nothing. I was supposed to teach some trumpet lessons today, but no way am I going to sit in a confined space and blow my air all over the room.
